This was the first box I bought after we got married. I think it cost $5.00 or something...I don't decorate w/ cabin in the woods kind of theme but I really liked the duck on the box! It just sang to me from the shelf at the store, so I had to buy it!

A few pictures of Christmas Past...

And of course we always take a silly picture of the babies at Christmas time. They love that now don't they? We dress them in Santa hats- this is Calvin...he was 3 months old at Christmas in 1995:
Brady was 8 months old for his first Christmas in 1997
And well, sometimes Christmas wasn't always a happy occasion...not when you are 4 and don't want to leave Grandma's house. Brady had a little tantrum and I think he fell asleep here by the door. Sometimes they wear the Santa hat- just because.
And this last picture is one I will always treasure...it is the first visit with Santa for Gannon, and Calvin and Brady still whole-heartedly believed in the magic of Christmas....now they are pre-teens and not so much believing anymore. He was the BEST looking Santa we ever went to see.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

From Pretty to Prim!
Okay, this is not what I really wanted the picture to look like...the sun is WAY too bright this morning to get a good picture- but you get the idea. The flooring DEFINATELY has to go now. TOO much pattern going on! lol But this is what happened- I was looking for a certain pattern in a shower curtain, but the store I went to did not have one in...and maybe lucky for me. They had the pattern in curtains, but had the shower curtains on order and they would have taken 2 weeks to come in. I compared my paint sample to the curtains they had, and was not sure at all if it would go with what I was currently painting on my walls in there. I actually wanted something close to the black checked placemat on the back of the toilet in the picture. Anyhow, I was in a bit of a time-crunch (as you probably could tell from my post that day!) so I picked out this shower curtain. The lady informed me that they did not have matching window treatments for it, and I decided I would just pick one out in a plain color that would match. No biggie-except I discovered when I got home that I totally forgot to get one! I was too busy making sure I had gotten all 6 sets of curtains that I needed for in the kitchen and in the correct sizes that the valance for the bathroom just slipped my mind! It was okay- my bill was high enough as it was! But there I was in the middle of painting and trying to get everything else put together for my MIL's visit and had no time to go back to the stores to get something for the window in there. My solution? I pulled out 3 plain, muslin colored, dish towels I had bought to stitch on and hung them over the rod! It really didn't turn out bad for a quick fix, and my MIL had no idea until I told her! lol Actually, in looking around for some kind of rug to go on the floor, I found that I have one in the same colors as the shower curtain- just in stripes! It's on the floor in the pic, but needs washed now- nothing light colored stays clean for long w/these 3 boys and 3 puppies! BUT I do have another one ( I found them at a great price so I picked up 2) so it will be nice to be able to swap them out for washing. I didn't get my shutters done either, but hope to get them done and up before Don sees what I am doing! He is not going to like them- they will be black and primitive! They should cover the bottom half of the window. I am really leaning toward black accessories in there, so I am sort of glad I didn't hold out for the black checked shower curtain. I really don't like everything being matchy-matchy anyhow. Here is the picture I took of the sink area:
VERY plain for now. I plan on making a shelf for under the mirror (yeah, that is the cheapie I bought the other day- I didn't find another so I kept it for in there- for now), in black of course, and have it drawn up on the wood, but need to get it cut and put together. The wood is from a small, unfinished end table (?) that I picked up at yard sale for a few bucks. There were 2 of them (both for $4 I think) and one seemed like they made it right, the other seemed like they messed up on measurements and so they gave up on both. I pulled the messed up one apart and it should make a right-nice shelf for in there. Now the cupboards....I want to paint them BLACK too! But that DEFINATELY has to be done when I KNOW Don won't see what I am doing- he would never go for me painting over finished wood! I am nervous just thinking about it, myself! They are starting to show a bit of wear and will need refinished anyway, so why not in black? I just keep thinking I need more stuff on the walls- and looking around for things I can make for in there! I thought about painting some frames black and hanging 3x5 pics of my boys taking baths (as babies w/ nothing showing!) down the right side of the mirror. I would print them up in black and white or sepia...Maybe I'll have to go ahead and try it to see what it would look like. The last picture, again, is not a good one for showing colors...the walls are actually a nice tan- Natural Bark I think is the name (from Walmart). That darn morning sun! lol I took pictures in my kitchen to show you my new curtains in there, but it was soooo bright that it made my walls look like a lemon-y yellow! yuck. So that will be a picture for another time...tomorrow possibly.
OH! I have a tip for those of you who do your own wall or furniture painting! While you are painting (and the paint is good and mixed), take a baby food jar, canning jar or any other tight sealing jar or container and pour some of your paint in it. Label the jar with the color name, paint brand, and what you painted with it (living room, dining room walls, side table, etc.) Seal it tightly and keep it under your kitchen sink- or anywhere else that it would be easily accessable. Whenever you need a touch-up (nail holes, dings, scratches) just pull out the appropriate jar, give it a good shake to make sure the color is fully mixed, and take a craft brush to touch up any needed areas! It sure seems to beat having to pull out large paint cans and stirring a lot of paint at one time if all you really need to do is shake up a jar!
Well, I hope I did well for a quickie makeover! I am really satisfied with what I was able to accomplish in such a short period of time, and I will enjoy adding to it as I see fit! What do you think?
