We have been having some beautiful early spring weather. I’ve been painting away, with the doors open wide to let the fresh air in. My kitchen is naked. I feel uncomfortable in it. I don’t know why though…you can see that NO one could possibly see me in there! And they really can’t even see that we still have our Christmas lights up :-) lol The sunrise was beautiful the other morning…
I love mornings like this.
oh…I teased you with a promise of a peek, didn’t I?
I made great progress on the painting today. ‘Old Yellar” is GONE! I am so happy about this, I can’t even tell you how much. I know why I kept those white walls and that darn hunter green trim (and apple stencil) for so long before I painted gold. That should tell you how much I wanted the gold gone since I’m painting over it so soon. Painting trim in a 100+ year old house just stinks! Years ago, they tore out all plaster in the downstairs and put drywall. That should make it easy, right? Drywall is MUCH easier to deal with than plaster. Sadly, not so. At least not in this kitchen. They did not put new trim up over the drywall, but cut the drywall to go around the old trim. Really goes to show how crooked old houses are! There can be a half inch edge at the bottom of the window trim to paint but as I go up, the edge gets thinner and thinner until it is even with the drywall. I have had to resort to using my craft brushes…a lot.
I will show you a portion of ‘Old Yellar’…
I know…looks totally French’s, doesn’t it? lol It was not at ALL that bright in person. I did not post a single pic at Christmas time from my kitchen…I just could not STAND the way it looked in them!
Here are my new colors!
Oops! This is from the dining room…through the doorway is the kitchen. This is the best pic I have so far that is pretty true to the new kitchen colors. I took this today, and you can see that when I successfully finish the kitchen trim, I will have to be doing the trim in the dining room here too. There was just no way getting around that door frame…trim color has to be the same in both rooms. I had tested it on this frame against the red before I decided on the exact color I was using- had to make sure it would work in both. But you can at least SEE the colors of the kitchen from here (and please ignore that ugly box hanging there…it needs to go to the basement to the redo pile). On the left, you can see the bakers rack, piled high, because my ‘kitchen threw up’ into my dining room. I have been purging drawers and cupboards as I go, and will be purging that bakers rack eventually, too. I want a nice old looking cupboard to stand on that wall in the kitchen that you see. Who knows when that will get done, but I have a vision. It already feels more like a ‘farmhouse kitchen’ to me.
That is exactly what it should be.
I’ll be back later with more pics.
(and Thanks, Janene, for the advice today. Started painting the 2 things we talked about, and it’s MUCH better!)

looking good Christine! and oh what a wonderful view you have out of that window! I would give just about anything to look out a window and to not see a bunch of other houses!! that would be a dream come true!!

It is coming along nicely Christine. Can't wait to see more. I envy you getting to redo your kitchen. That is so what I want to do.
