Rain or Snow?

(Now, bear with me here…the better stuff is at the end :-)

At this point, I’m not sure which I would rather.  I love the warmer weather that has been visiting us this past week, but with Spring comes the rains.  Yesterday, as I was preparing dinner, I thought I heard something, but wasn’t really paying attention.  I finally started listening because it didn’t sound like one of the boys making the noise upstairs.  It was thunder!  I looked out the kitchen window and saw it coming…

The first thunderstorm of Spring!  I was excited, and I really didn’t mind the fact that poor Sadie was trying to crawl into every nook and closet she could find.  I finally put her in the basement- she is not a fan of thunder…at all.  Go figure- she will run a rabbit with a gun shots all around her, but she is literally terrified of even the teeniest rumble of thunder. lol

Well, it rained.  And it rained.  And it stopped.  And then rained some more.  I knew when I saw it coming from the east, that we were in for a good one.  We had thunder and lightening strikes for the better part of 5 hours- and that was just what I heard of it before I finally went to sleep.  Oh yeah!  We even had hail which I guestimated to be about the size of Peanut M&M’s :-)  We can see a long way from up on this hill, and saw 2 different incidents that involved sirens and fire trucks.  One across the valley, which the newspaper didn’t report the reason why, and after dark, Hubs looked out the window and told me someone had wrecked into the cemetary and there were police and a fire truck down there right below us.  We saw the sheriff and the tow truck arrive and the storm was wide open with very heavy rains and really close lightning strikes.  I felt bad for everyone involved out there.  The lightning was worse than I thought with the reports of houses and telephone poles being struck  in the area.  Several roads around here were closed last night due to flash flooding.

At one point before dark when there was a break in the action, I looked out and saw the eerie looking sky.  I had to take a few pictures of the dark blanket we were under.  The was out the kitchen/side of the house…

And through the pines out front, you can see it here…

That was just creepy.  And then it rained and stormed some more.  I knew the valley was in for it.  Just for a bit of comparison, this is a picture I snapped the last week or so, when Hubs drove down the drive to give Gannon a ride up from the bus.  Now for clarification, there are 3 distinct lakes down there…those would be the 3 furthest right.  The lake looking thing on the lower left of the group is actually just a bit of flooding from all the heavy snow we had.  There is also a big creek that runs through that area- which is the root of the problem.

This is what we woke up to this morning…

Same area, totally different landscape.  Luckily there are no houses in that immediate area.  Just fields.  Anyone who knows this area knows that you just can’t build a house down there. And you really should even spend the money on planting crops down there- but they do.  This does happen a few times a year.  There are 2 roads that when the creek floods, they are closed down too.

I have thought that after living here all these years and seeing some MAJOR flooding (this one is semi-major- I have seen much worse in the past), I should be building an ark…you know, on the side- as a hobby.  lol  And then I am thinking, if all this rain was snow, what would the landscape look like then?

So all that excitement for me, but boring for you.  I have spent the day cleaning and tweaking a few things. I’ve mainly been working on the cabinets in the kitchen by switching stuff out and trying to find an arrangement I like, but here are a few of some other areas that I have been messing around with.

These are on my cupboard in the DR.

I added some daffodils to the crock urn I found a few weeks ago.  These sit on the old singer cabinet in the LR.

I added my Rupert Rabbit to the shelf in the LR.

Well….I guess that was all I took today.  I was thinking there were more.  Hopefully I will have more pictures soon.  I still have LOTs that needs tweaked with some spring stuff :-)  Until then, I hope everyone is staying dry! lol
