New Addition to the Kitchen

This is my second post today, so if you missed the first one on my Peg Rail Tutorial, keep scrolling down after this posting. My new kitchen pics are just below that one, from yesterday, if you missed those :-)

I mentioned that when cutting the boards for the peg rail, I messed up on a few and cut them too short.  I ended up with several pieces of 1x4 in various shorter lengths…which I planned to make a few signs with.  Well, after posting the pics yesterday of my newly decorated kitchen, something was bugging me about them, so I decided to do something about it.

Here is one from yesterday

And here is one from a little bit ago…notice the difference (besides the grapes being in my sink board instead of the strawberries  lol)?

I have a ‘coffee house’ on my counter now!

It’s open on the back and I can just slide it forward to fill the pot before bed.  All hubs has to do in the morning is open the door and push the button to turn it on!   It does have a timer you can set, but for some reason, even though it’s digital, it does not keep the correct time!  I’ve never heard of that happening with a digital clock- it loses about 10 minutes a day?

I had to go to Home Depot this morning to get the hinges, but wouldn’t you know?  This was as small as they sell!  I was really surprised that they didn’t have a larger selection of small decorative hinges…very disappointing.  I figured these would be too big, and they are, but I wanted this done (like yesterday) so I got these for now.  I may have to order a smaller set if I can’t find them elsewhere.  I’d like them to be half this size and maybe even a different style- and I’ll just have to fill in the screw holes and redo it.  I love the little knot hole on the door- I left that there on purpose!

No tut on this project though…I’m lucky I even squeaked this one out :-)  I measured the size of my pot, and went down to see if I had enough 1x4’s to make it…I did but just barely.  I made all 3 sides separately and then had my husband use the nail gun to fasten them together and put the top on while I squared it and held it.  It turned out pretty good.  I didn’t tell him at the time, what he was helping me make.  When he saw it later, his response was, “ That looks like a pain in the a** to mess with.”  lol  I reminded him that HE is not the one who fills it in the first place so he didn’t need to worry about it!  I think, overall, he was pretty impressed with it cause I caught him looking at it a few times.  He later called it a coffee house…which was his compromise between an outhouse (which he also said it looked like) and what it was actually supposed to be.  I thought that was rather nice of him. :-D

While I was building this, I started thinking…what if I find out that it IS a pain to deal with every day?  I decided that I could just put a back and a bottom on it- maybe even an inside shelf- and use it as a cupboard elsewhere.  Then I had an idea and discovered this…

SO…I can always move it. (until I make a cover for this! lol)

This morning, I started staring down my toaster….he’s next :-)

A few quick pics of the boys yesterday….I loved this and took several before they realized it.  We don’t see this kind of ‘peace’ too often around here with them :-)

I say just make a second one for the mixer. Coffee house mixer house A matching set. It just looks perfect. I already have my words ready for my hubby. Oh honey it keeps the dust off the coffee maker and just think your coffee will be much better without the dust.(black coffe maker collects so much dust by the window) I have wood scraps and want to try. Thanks so much. Enjoyed
