Sorting, Organizing, and Purging

Yes, I am slowly gettin’ around to getting my room back in order.  That much stuff was just too scary to see all at once!  lol  So, as I am unpacking my boxes, I am carefully going over the items in them, and as Dr. Phil says, ‘Getting Real’ about a LOT of it.  I’m kind of using the concept with which you are supposed to clean out your closets- Have I worn (used) this shirt (bag of wooden heart cut-outs) in the past 2 years? Nope. Donate box.  I will be taking my boxes to the Restore when I am finished.  This is what it looked like earlier today:

Pretty darn scary.  It’s not looking too much better, at this point, but I have a lot of it organized and put in my cupboard.  Does anyone else find that in order to REALLY clean and organize something, that you have to make a BIG mess in order to get it totally done? lol

See my new carpeting?  I love it!  We have Marc’s close out stores around here, and have one here in town.  Thankfully, my neighbor has family in other areas that also have these stores- so she often stops in to the stores in the surrounding areas.  2 months ago, she stopped in one in a bigger area and they had room sized carpet ‘remnants’ (much bigger than the pieces our local store had).  She wanted new carpet in her bedroom, and she new we were looking for new stuff too.  So she let us know that they were heading up to get some, and hubs went with and picked out this piece for this room.  I told him I really didn’t care about the color as long as it was neutral and he picked out this tan and cream berber.  Perfect!  It was plenty big enough for this room- we needed a piece about 15x20- and there was quite a bit to spare~!  All for….wait for it….$100!  Yes.  No typo there.  And installation was free b/c it was installed by us.  Well, ‘free’ unless you count the stress (Hubs), sweat (Hubs), blood (me- just a little), pain (my poor knees!), tears (again, Hubs)…- JuST KIDDING!  lol   It was all worth it because it looks wonderful!

You can see a ragged edge under the chair in the picture-  that was what was what was leftover and cut off back by the sliding doors and I am using it as a runner for in front of the bathroom.  That is the highest traffic area in this room.  It will work for now.  We also have a big piece rolled up in the basement left over from where we had to cut out around the bathroom (immediately to the left in the picture).  It’s hard to explain, but I will get pictures of the whole room once it gets put back together.  I still have to sort through the stuff we shoved back into the closet so I can get the closet doors put back on, and I have a few other things I need to change and move.  It’s coming along and hopefully I will have it mostly done by next week.

There are some big things happening outside of my window too!  That is just a little teaser for you for now, but I am taking pictures with the progress and will show them once it is further along.

I went for a long walk the other day through the orchard and picked some apple blossoms.  They smelled so sweet :-)

and looked so pretty in the kitchen

and a few littles in the vase on the sill. (that is the butterfly that Brady made me take off his cake- matches the ‘blue’ theme on my window sill pretty well!)

Gannon picked some Lilac blossoms for me to mix in with the flowers he picked a few days before…

and took a pic of me with them.  If I could fill my bed with those blossoms and sleep in them, I would.  My favorite part of Spring!

I stopped in the little store/greenhouse down the hill to get some red onions to put in the garden, and got to chatting with her about the flowers.  I said how I admired the geraniums and wanted to know when they were getting more in, and she told me that their supplier shipped them 4 weeks early this year and had stopped growing them.  So what they had was all they had left!  I went back out and picked up this beauty for $10.

April2010 485  It filled out that metal box (with a little riser in the bottom)  I bought that thing years ago really cheap, and never really used it for much.  I just found it in the basement recently.  I would have bought more if they had any other red ones.  The other few were hot pink and pink and white striped.  I don’t know if any other places will have a problem with getting any, but I sure am going to check and not try to wait until last minute this year!

There are more things to share…I know there are.  I’m just gettin’ tired at this point, and I will save some for another day.  Hope you enjoy your weekend!

The title of your post (Sorting, Organizing and Purging) have been my favorite words this spring.
When I do that I usually make a mess in several rooms at once.
Love the blooms!

Your purging looks familiar...guess that's why I don't do it but once a year! lol I create more mess than before.

Your Geranium is beautiful.
I need some real ones for outside but can't find them yet but don't think they'd make it as we just had frost this past week...Spring just can't get here fast enough for me. We are being teased.

Hugs, Karen

Lilacs, my favorite. Ours are just small buds and I can't wait for the heady scent!
