TIM-ber!!

?????

lol What am I talking about?  Well that is what I could have yelled yesterday.  I did convince myself to work outside yesterday, and I got a few of the flower beds weeded and prepped.  They are looking good and now when I come across some good flat prices on flowers, I can buy away.  As I was cleaning the bed below the patio out, I accidently leaned on the post….you know, the one I mentioned that I want to build the birdhouse for.

CRAAACCKK

Oh crap.  You’ve got to be kidding me!  Pushing on it a little….crack, crack, crack.  Great.  Bigger push….CRACK…..TIMBER!…BOOM.

Down it went.  I didn’t actually yell timber…then I was kinda mad that I didn’t take the opportunity.  Then Hubs came home and was looking at me looking at that flower bed with the post broken off, laying on the ground.  It didn’t look right anymore.  The flower bed was NOT the same.  It had to have a post.  I began the task of digging the remainder out of the ground.  Hubs felt bad for me…He knew I wanted that post.  He helped me dig out the remaining piece and since the hole was already there, he helped me sink a new post. :)  He’s sweet like that.

I must take some crooked pictures.  It’s straight…I checked :)

That flower bed is still in a make-over process.  I had to pull it apart so we can dig some more dirt out to be able to attach the railing to the patio.

Flower bed by back door…

I love this one with the birdbath.  It was here when we moved in, but it was in the lower bed.  Hubs moved it up here for me.  Only look at the dirt- not the arbor, the tomato cage, the rusty fish, etc.  The basement window has to be pulled out and put in a new casing…the bottom sill rotted and fell off while I was working.  I was just tearin stuff up yesterday!

That bed will now run the length of the back of the house.  We are going to landscape the whole area.  That bush is FULL of blooms, and once it is finished, I will be trimming it way back.

This is the bed by the walkway to the patio.  I had some kind of mint running amuck and had to tear it allll out.  It was everywhere…including down under and in between the rocks on that wall which will now need reset.

This is the bed along the side of the house.  I filled some trays with soil to plant some flower seeds.

Then last night, Hubs was getting excited b/c everything was starting to look really good, so he brought out the tiller and started me a new bed.

May2010 001

He is really excited (FINALLY) about all the work we have been doing.  He even said when we get the beds and patio all done, it’s going to look like it belongs in Better Homes and Gardens!  lol

May2010 003

Eventually the bed with the post and the new one will go all the way across (where the tiller is sitting) and connect.  He wanted to know if I wanted it done last night while he had the tiller out, but I told him that I would like to get the ones done that we already have, and then we will work on connecting them later this summer.

Sweet little ‘wagon’ that the boys put together for me the other day while it was raining…

lol- they were so proud of their work :)

THEN after all that work, Brady showed me his hand that he had hurt trying to catch a football…

May2010 004

It’s swelled and tight at the base of his thumb.  He said it doesn’t really hurt, but I told him to ice it and I will be calling the doctor this morning. It’s my day off, but of course I told another caretaker I would take her shift.  So I will go in and get my client up and showered, call the doctor make an appointment, and depending on what time I can get him an appointment, I will probably have to have the agency have someone come in to relieve me so I can take him to his appointment, and then likely for X-rays.  Am I a bad mom for not rushing him to the emergency room?  He’s not in any serious pain and by seeing the doctor who will then send him for X-rays, I avoid the $150 co-pay it costs us to even just walk through the ER door.  It’s crazy.  I hate to have to pay the $150 when it’s likely that he just jammed it- really good.  When Calvin hurt his arm in football season, I did the same thing, and the doctor even thought it was broken.  Sent us for X-rays, and it turned out it wasn’t and was just a deep bruise.  Brady doesn’t mind…he gets to stay home from school today until I get him in.

So that’s my day today…don’t exactly know what’s in store.  I have packages to mail out, and don’t know if I will make it to the P.O. or not.  So if you are expecting something from me…please hold on-it will get out to you!

You have a great hubs and kudos for you for trying to it all yourself! If you have any left over energy you would like to sell, please let me know!

Wow...the post and the sill? Maybe Calvin gets his "hulk" strength from you since he tears Brady's shirts just by touching him. Hopefully his thumb is just jammed...and mom never took us to the hospital right away, so he'll be fine.
